Good news for the world-wide SANCHO fandom: the lifestyle-cult brand for men and women will be continued as SANCHO ABARCA. Beyond the monotony of mainstream, SANCHO ABARCA signifies tradition, authenticity, and craftsmanship.
The SANCHO ABARCA enterprise was founded in 1947 and in the first years operated also under the SANCHO ABARCA brand-name, with its main office in Almansa, Spain. The city lies between Alicante and Madrid and today has approximately 25,000 inhabitants. After the Second World War unemployment predominated Spain, resulting in a government directive to create more jobs. This included, among others things, the support of the establishment of shoe and leather-crafting factories in the region. In the beginning SANCHO ABARCA employed a staff of 120 and produced 120 pairs of boots daily— one pair per worker, per day. 300 machines stood ready for the production of Goodyear-sewn (double-welted) shoes.
Over the years “Sancho Abarca” became the firm “Sancho Boots Trading” with its now protected brand name, “SANCHO BOOTS”. The brand, becoming widely known, then continually increased their production capacity and expanded their range of products— sold in over 30 countries.
IBecause of the European economic crisis that which aggressively hit Spain, in February of 2014 — after 67 years of turbulent corporate history— the company faced bankruptcy charges. Shortly thereafter, the factory was closed and the production of the beloved, world-renown SANCHO BOOTS completely stopped.
Sancho Abarca - back to the roots
But the story continues: Already in June of 2015 a new body of management redesigned and produced a small but refined collection of tasteful boots— all under the label SANCHO ABARCA and in line with the concept of “Back to the Roots”; the distinctive & classic Sancho-enthusiast- designs were then reinstated into the now current product range. From the story of success of Sancho Boots, a goal is drawn.
A further, no less important aim is to uphold the traditional art of shoe-craftsmanship and to stay true to the founding principle— quality over quantity. SANCHO ABARCA boots are currently produced in Valverde del Camino, Andalusia. Most of the some 13,000 inhabitants of this city, like in Almansa, today still find their livelihoods in the shoe trade.
And now off to new shores— with trendy fashion and country-style boots and ankle boots in diverse leather variations of the “Wild-west” look. Also in store are the classic “Engineer Biker Boots”, the legendary Sancho “Farmer Boots 541”, and the “Delirus 5122”. Of course we’ll also stay true to the cowboy and western boots with the sloping heels and pointed toes!
